Learn More from Bedford CDJR!

One of the most popular features of the Jeep Wrangler is the removable top and doors, giving occupants total open-air freedom and unobstructed access to the world around them. Of course, you want the Wrangler for the fantasy of cruising around with the sun on your skin and the wind in your hair. However, without experience or guidance, removing the top and doors can feel a bit tedious. Here at Bedford Hills Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we want you to get the full Jeep Wrangler experience. So please continue reading below to learn more about removing the Wrangler's hard top.

How to Remove Jeep Wrangler Hard Top

Jeep Wrangler hard tops come with three separate panels; two in the front and one over the rear of the cabin. The first step is to undo the six latches holding the front two panels in place, there will be three in the front and three in the back. To remove the outside two front ones, you will have to move the visor off to the side. Once the six latches are undone, simply lift up on the driver's side panel to remove it and set it aside in a safe place. Repeat this process for the passenger side. Once the front panels are removed, it's time to remove the rear panel. There are a total of eight bolts that need to be loosened with a Torx head driver to remove the hard top. The first two to remove are at the front of the hard top, one on the driver's side and the other on the passenger side. Next, you'll need to remove the three bolts on both sides inside the rear windows of the hard top. If your Jeep is equipped with a rear window defroster, remember to remove the electrical connection on the left side when looking at the back of the vehicle. With all the bolts and connections loose, have at least one friend help you lift and remove the top, gently setting it in a safe place.

How to Remove Jeep Wrangler Doors

Whether your Jeep Wrangler has two or four doors, the process is the same. Start by rolling down all of the windows to prevent any glass damage. Next, using the Torx head driver, remove both hinge pin screws from both the top and bottom outside hinges. Inside the Wrangler's door frame, there is a tray dedicated to these screws. If your Jeep is equipped with power windows and door locks, you'll need to disconnect the wiring harness underneath the instrument panel. Lastly, unhook the black safety strap from the inside of the door. Then, carefully lift the door clear of the hinge pins and set it aside safely. Repeat this process for as many doors as you'd like.
