Now Here at Bedford CDJR!

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is making its way into the world of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). However, within the PHEV class, the 4xe is blazing its own trail by keeping the Wrangler's legendary off-road capability. While the Wrangler is known for its capability, some may ask just how fuel-efficient such a capable vehicle can be. Let's let the numbers do the talking. The Wrangler 4xe has a total driving range of 370 miles, an electric driving range of 21 miles, and a combined average of 49 MPG! How does Jeep get these numbers, you ask? Keep reading below to find out!

What Powers the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe?

The Wrangler 4xe is powered with a combination of a 2.0L turbocharged I4 engine and two electric motors. One of the electric motors is mounted to the cylinder head while the other is mounted to the front of the transmission, and both are powered by a 400-volt battery pack underneath the rear seat, where it is protected from the outside elements. This setup provides a satisfying 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque! It's worth noting that 100% of that torque is available instantly. Whether you're merging on the highway or navigating rugged terrain, this immediately available torque is beneficial. The Wrangler 4xe still has the Wrangler's go anywhere do anything attitude with off-road suspension and chassis and a full-time 4x4 drivetrain.

How is the 4xe Battery Charged?

Upon purchase, the Wrangler 4xe comes with a 120-volt Level I charger. This electric vehicle charger provides a charge time of twelve hours. Available for purchase is a Level II 240-volt charger that brings the charge time down to just two hours. Jeep is placing charging stations at the trailheads of Jeep Badge of Honor trails to charge up before hitting the trails. The use of regenerative braking also charges the 4xe battery. This allows the battery to charge itself when the vehicle is slowing down. The Max Regeneration feature optimizes the accelerator for more rapid regeneration at a low pedal position. This will slow the car down without using the brake pedal, extending the brake pad life and charging the battery all at once. To bring the 4xe to a complete stop, the driver must still press the brake pedal.

What Are the E-Selec Drive Modes?

Drivers can take control of the hybrid system by using the E-Selec buttons. Being a PHEV, it's no surprise that the system defaults to Hybrid mode. This uses the battery's electric power when the vehicle is coasting, and the gas engine activates when the driver requests more power by pressing the gas pedal. E-Save mode turns off the electric generators and uses only the gas engine to charge the battery and save the electric power for a later time. Adversely, Electric mode disengages the gas engine and uses only the electric generators to provide up to 21 miles of near-silent driving with zero emissions.
