While the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L has enough room for the whole family and the dog, Jeep made sure it didn't miss out on any of the 4x4 fun! Comfort and style come together in the three-row Grand Cherokee L, but it's the capability that impresses us the most. The capability starts with the two engines available for the Grand Cherokee L. Standard is a 290-horsepower 3.6L V6, while a 357-horsepower 5.7L V8 is optional. However, the capability of this all-new model goes much further than potent engines. Quadra-Trac I
Quadra-Trac I is a full-time 4x4 system with a single-speed active transfer case. It provides fantastic all-weather capability with input from a network of sensors that monitor wheel spin and detect slippage. If slippage is detected, the transfer case will redistribute up to 100% of available engine torque to the axle with the best grip. This will pre-emptively limit the severity of the slip, allowing you to remain in control.
Quadra-Trac II
The two-speed transfer case employed by Quadra-Trac II provides low-range gear reduction for more off-road control. It also uses continuous torque redistribution to make instant corrections in the event of a loss of traction. Quadra-Trac II, however, uses Active 4-Low torque control with a 2.72:1 gear ratio. This allows drivers to take on more rugged terrain with low-speed crawling control and maneuverability.
Quadra-Drive II with rear eLSD
Quadra-Drive II adds an electronic limited-slip rear differential for industry-leading traction control. The system will instantly detect a loss of traction and seamlessly responds by redistributing torque to the tires with traction. In some cases, the system will anticipate low traction by monitoring wheel spin when the vehicle leaves a stop and proactively adjust to limit and even eliminate the slippage. Quadra-Drive II is available on the Overland trim when it's equipped with the Off-Road Group and is standard on the Summit models.
Selec-Terrain traction management
Selec-Terrain gives drivers control over the Grand Cherokee L's traction control systems. The rotary dial, placed within easy reach of the driver on the center console, provides Auto, Snow, Sport, and Sand/Mud modes. Auto mode puts the systems in control by sensing the road conditions and automatically adjusting to keep the vehicle in control. Snow mode automatically adjusts the torque split and traction control to provide optimal control when the road is covered with snow. Sand/Mud mode acts similarly to Snow mode but makes slightly different adjustments to adapt to the dry road surface. Sport adjusts the transmission shift points and throttle control, providing a fun and fuel-efficient driving experience. Grand Cherokee L models equipped with Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II add Rock mode to the dial to lower transmission shift points and optimize traction control on rugged terrain.
