CHARGING MADE SIMPLE
Recharge
The battery can be fully recharged in approximately 2 hours using an available Level II charger (240-volt), or 12 hours using the included Level I charger (120-volt). With the ability to charge at home and work, you can enjoy the benefits of fully electric daily commutes.
Regenerative Braking
This feature allows the battery to be charged when decelerating and braking. The Max Regeneration feature remaps the accelerator pedal to command more aggressive regen at low pedal positions. It allows you to slow the vehicle down without the brake pedal, but a complete stop always requires the brake pedal. It also stays selected until you turn it off.

Hybrid Mode
The default mode, Hybrid, combines torque from both the 2.0L turbocharged engine and the electric motors. This combination provides maximum horsepower, instant torque and the best acceleration. Electric power is consumed first.
Electric Mode
When the battery has more than a 1% charge, it can run in Electric Mode. This allows for nearly zero tailpipe emissions up to highway speeds. The vehicle can run in this mode for up to 21 miles.

What is the hybrid setup of the Wrangler 4xe?
The 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a plug-in hybrid that combines a gas engine, two electric motors, and a rechargeable battery pack. The gas-powered engine is a 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine. To give the Wrangler 4xe its electric power, Jeep removed the traditional alternator and replaced it with an electric motor. Additionally, the torque converter inside the transmission was also replaced by an electric generator. This gives the Wrangler 375 horsepower and a stunning 470 lb-ft of immediate torque. Furthermore, the Wrangler 4xe gets the gas equivalent of 56 MPG and has a total driving range of up to 440 miles and an electric driving range of 21 miles. The 400-volt lithium-ion battery pack found underneath the rear seat can be fully charged in 12 hours with the Level 1 electric vehicle charger supplied upon purchase. However, a Level 2 EV charger is available for sale and cuts the full charge time to just two hours.
Does the hybrid power affect the Wrangler's off-roading abilities?
Hybrid power almost always affects the performance of a vehicle. However, Jeep made sure that if the Wrangler’s off-road capability were impacted, it would be for the better. And, boy, was it! Of course, being a Wrangler, the Wrangler 4xe comes standard with Jeep’s Selec-Trac 4x4. This is a full-time 4x4 system. Therefore, it continuously detects road conditions and adjusts power distribution accordingly. The system will operate on dry, smooth road surfaces in two-wheel drive to maximize fuel efficiency. When off-roading or driving on snow or loose gravel, the system will drive all four wheels and send power to the axle with the most traction when a slip is detected. As with the gas-powered models, the Rubicon trim uses the Rock-Trac transfer case with a lower gear range ratio to provide even more low-end torque for better control while crawling at low speeds. Additionally, the electric power from the generator in the transmission delivers 100% of the engine's torque instantly. Of course, this makes merging on the highway a breeze. But it also aids in off-road control since it helps move the wheels over an obstacle without building up RPMs.
