We here at Bedford Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram want to help as we compare two of the best SUVs out there in the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Toyota 4Runner. Both of these SUVs have excellent engine options and can more than hold their own when it comes to features, but which one has the advantage? For the answer, continue reading.
Are you looking for power? Well, you have come to the right place with the 2021 Grand Cherokee! Standard is a 3.6-liter V6 capable of producing a stark 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. If you decide on either the Trailhawk, Summit, or Overland trims, you get the option of a 5.7-liter V8 that kicks out 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. There is even more power to be had with the SRT trim as it comes with a 6.4-liter V8 that pumps out an astonishing 470 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. This would be the king of the hill if it weren't for the Trackhawk. The mesmerizing Trackhawk has a standard supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that scorches the pavement with 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. Each engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel-drive with the option for four-wheel-drive. The Trackhawk and the SRT have a performance-oriented four-wheel-drive system.
There is only one available engine option for the Toyota 4Runner, and it's a serviceable 4.0-liter V6 that gets you 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with a five-speed automatic transmission. Most trims that you come across will come standard with two-wheel-drive, while higher trims have standard four-wheel-drive. While these power numbers are okay, they pale in comparison to what the Grand Cherokee gives you. So, if you are looking for an SUV with better and more powerful engines, it's best to go with the Grand Cherokee.
There are seven fabulous trims available for the 2021 Grand Cherokee, and each one comes with some impressive features. The base trim is the Laredo, which has18-inch wheels, rear parking sensors, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Building on this is the Limited, which brings a sunroof, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, auto-dimming mirrors, heated front seats, a power liftgate, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen. Looking for an SUV that goes off-road? Try the Trailhawk trim as it comes with all-terrain tires, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, underbody skid plates, off-road-tuned air suspension, all-terrain drive modes, and ventilated front seats. Higher trims don't skimp on the luxury, or tech features as included are features like xenon headlights, all-leather seating, a power-adjustable steering column, chrome exterior trim, Brembo brakes, a sport-tuned adaptive suspension, and black exterior trim.
The Toyota 4Runner comes with nine trim levels, and you do get some interesting features with each. The first trim is known as the SR5, which has LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, roof rails, a power rear window, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Next is the Trail Special Edition, which has a portable beverage cooler and dark-painted wheels. Simultaneously, the SR5 Premium adds keyless ignition and entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated front seats. You can find off-road features with the TRD Off-Road and the Off-Road Premium, which has a locking rear differential and additional drive settings. Higher trims round things out with more luxury items such as 20-inch wheels, chrome exterior accents, sunroof, leather upholstery, an integrated navigation system, and a JBL sound system.
