2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vs Chevy Traverse

Jeep recently launched the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, a three-row version of the most awarded SUV and Jeep’s nameplate. Offering seating for up to seven passengers, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Lwill compete with various Chevrolet products, including the Traverse. This is why Bedford Jeep Ram decided to take a closer look at the Grand Cherokee L specs and see how it stacks up against the Traverse.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Power & Handling

Thanks to the Grand Cherokee L’s Selec-Terrain Traction Management System and Quadra-Lift Air Suspension, drivers will enjoy all-weather capability. Choose from three highly adaptive available 4x4 systems. Quadra-Trac I can automatically switch between two-wheel and four-wheel drive for optimal efficiency. Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II offer you maximum power and 4x4 capability. The Quadra-Lift air suspension delivers a comfortable and well-controlled ride while offering up to an extra 4.2 inches of chassis lift. There are two available engines for the L. The standard engine is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that offers 290 horsepower and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission; and is available on both the two-wheel-drive model and the four-wheel-drive model. When the Grand Cherokee is equipped with the class-exclusive available 5.7L V8 engine, it provides a best-in-class maximum towing capacity of 7,200 pounds.

2021 Chevrolet Traverse Power & Handling

The Chevy Traverse has one engine option, a 3.6-liter V6 that makes a hefty 310 horsepower. The 3.6-liter V6 engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Traverse comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is optional on all trim levels except the L model. All-wheel drive is recommended if you live where it snows, or roads can be slick as the front-wheel-drive system is less than adequate. If you require maximum traction, you will have to jump up to the Traverse High Country model, which offers a dual-clutch transfer system that will automatically adjust the amount of torque going to each rear wheel, further preventing slippage. The Chevy Traverse SUV is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds when optioned with the trailer package. The Chevy Traverse offers an engine idle start and stops system, but it cannot be disabled, unlike its rivals.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Features & Design

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L offers sophistication and handcrafted details, with an instrument panel angled away from the driver to offer a more spacious cabin. The massive 10.25-inch digital gauge display and 10.1-inch screen for the state-of-the-art Uconnect 5 infotainment system are both elegantly integrated into the dash. The perforated Nappa leather seats with quilted bolsters look especially luxurious when accented by the beautiful open-pore wood trim. The Grand Cherokee L provides a metal gear shirt dial conveniently placed in the center console, but if you would like a sporty driving experience, the paddle shifters will help with that. They are located behind the steering wheel allowing you to upshift or downshift without taking your hands off the steering wheel.

2021 Chevrolet Traverse Features & Design

The Chevy Traverse offers three rows of seating. The standard configuration is a 2nd-row bench, allowing for seating of up to eight passengers. Buyers can choose a more comfortable configuration of two captain’s seats in the middle row. The third row is best suited for kids as it does not offer much legroom. The Traverse’s central infotainment touchscreen comes in a standard size of 7-inch or an optional 8-inch version. Both look minuscule compared to the Grand Cherokee L’s 10-inch screen. In addition to the touch screen, Chevy gave the system physical controls for typical functions such as volume and audio-track adjustment. Smaller buttons adjust climate settings like fan speed. The Traverse’s MyLink infotainment system works quite well.

Conclusion:

As you can see, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is far superior to the Chevy Traverse. The Grand Cherokee offers far more room for passengers and provides top-of-the-line technology.
