Spring Maintenance for your Jeep

All of the rain, mud, and heavy winds can heavily batter your Jeep as you barrel down the trail. It is highly recommended that you replace your Jeep's wiper blades, check all plastic windows, and replace all of the old parts, both on the interior and exterior, that may have been battered and bruised during the winter months. 

During the winter months, snow and salt can leave a residue. As part of spring cleaning, you should probably wash your Jeep both on top and in the undercarriage. Leaving all of that snow and salt will start to eat away at the underbody of the Jeep and may cause extensive repairs down the road. 

Being able to see is essential during any driving excursion, and before Spring hits, you need to make sure that your headlights are in pristine condition. That way, they will be working when you need them the most. You may need to clean them a lot during your off-road season, but a thorough check and cleaning will go a long way to make sure they are working correctly. Additionally, you should also think about replacing your oil filter and changing your oil to make sure your engine is running smoothly through the Spring. You also want to make sure that your wiper fluid, power steering fluid, coolant, and brake fluid are all topped off. Having your engine overheat or losing power steering fluid during your off-road sessions is one of the last things you want to happen. 

Having a dead battery while you're cruising the backwoods can leave you stranded. Make sure your battery is adequately charged or even replaced is essential if you take your Jeep out a lot during the Spring months. Additionally, proper traction and sufficient braking power are crucial when you're driving on steep terrain, and having enough tread on your tires. Thick brake pads can make all the difference in avoiding obstacles, rolling your Jeep, or something worse. If the tire tread is low or your brakes are worn, get them replaces as soon as possible. 

The final maintenance tip we are going to cover is two parts of your Jeep that are often overlooked, the belts and the hoses. The serpentine belt inside your Jeep keeps most of the engine parts moving, including the alternator, power steering pump, amongst others. If your timing belt snaps while driving, it's bound to cause damage during your driving, and it can ruin your engine. All of your hoses help move radiator fluids throughout your Jeep, and if your radiator house goes out, you're Jeep can overheat and may cause damage to your engine. Keep your ride nice and cool, and make sure your Jeep is good to go.
