8,000-mile service

By the time your Grand Cherokee reaches 8,000 miles, the first order of business is to change the oil and replace the oil filter. At the same time, it’s a good idea to rotate the tires to avoid any premature wear. Going forward, you’ll want to repeat the oil change and tire rotation no more than every 8,000 miles. Of course, how frequently you service your vehicle depends on a few factors, the most critical being vehicle usage and driving habits. If you use your Grand Cherokee for easy everyday driving, 8,000 miles is a great time to change your oil. However, if you use the Grand Cherokee for off-roading or towing, it’s best to change the oil closer to every 6,000 miles. At every oil change, it’s important to have the brakes, exhaust system, engine cooling system, and engine air filter checked. These routine maintenance services and checks can be done here in the service center at Bedford CDJR.

16,000-mile service

Again, at 16,000 miles, you should have the oil and filter changed, which will become a given at every 8,000-mile mark. This is also a great time to have again the tires rotated and the items above checked. If you take your Grand Cherokee off-road, which it’s perfect for, 16,000 miles is an appropriate time to change the engine air filter, as it can become clogged with dirt and debris.

32,000 mile service

By 32,000 miles, Grand Cherokee’s used for everyday driving are usually due for a new engine air filter. This mile mark is also when the spark plugs should be checked and replaced if necessary. At 32,000 miles, you should also have your brake lines checked for any cracks and/or leaks, and your brake pads and rotors checked to ensure there isn’t any excessive wear. Lastly, your suspension system should be checked to ensure that all components are working correctly.

64,000-mile service

When you reach the 64,000-mile mark, the 32,000-mile service should be repeated, as well as additional items. For example, if you didn’t have the spark plugs replaced at 32,000 miles, they should be replaced at this service. Additionally, the drivetrain should get some love at this mileage. This includes flushing and replacing the transmission, transfer case, rear differential fluid. These are especially important if you use your Grand Cherokee for off-roading and/or towing.

96,000-mile service

By this point, you’ll most likely have the maintenance thing down. However, there are additional steps as you get close to the 100,000-mile mark. By 96,000 miles, you’ll most likely have to replace the brake pads and rotors if you have not yet needed to do so. Additionally, the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve, which takes waste gasses out of the crankcase where your oil is held and recycles it to the engine air intake system where it is blended with fuel to be burned, should be inspected and replaced if necessary.
