What engines power the 2022 Jeep Gladiator?
As we mentioned before, the Gladiator is available with two engine options. As standard equipment, you’ll find a 3.6-liter V6 engine, delivering 260 pound-feet of torque and 285 horsepower. The available 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 delivers 260 horsepower while boosting the torque way up to 442 lb-ft! All this torque is perfect for overcoming trail obstacles and towing. While the gas engine comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, an 8-speed automatic is available. Diesel Gladiator variants come equipped with an 8-speed automatic.
Standard and available features for the 2022 Gladiator
While the Gladiator’s cab looks like that of the Wrangler, you get the best of both worlds with the utility of a five-foot truck bed. The Gladiator is the only truck on the market to be equipped with a convertible top, removable doors, and a fold-down windshield. A few other exterior features include a three-position easy-open tailgate, 17-inch steel wheels, rugged black fender flares, and underbody skid plate protection. Inside, standard equipment includes a 7-inch Uconnect 4 touchscreen, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, eight speakers, cloth upholstery, and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay integration. When you select a higher trim level of the Gladiator, you’ll enjoy dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, navigation, Alpine premium audio with nine speakers, LED exterior lighting, heated power-adjustable side mirrors, and much more.
What 4x4 systems does the 2022 Jeep Gladiator use?
Not only does the Gladiator look like a Wrangler, but it handles off-roading just like the Wrangler. Standard equipment for the Gladiator is Command-Trac 4x4. Command-Trac is a part-time system, meaning that drivers choose between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive with high and low drive modes. While 4-high should be used while driving on roads with inclement conditions like snow or loose gravel, 4-low alters the engine output to better handle low-speed off-road crawling. Defaulting back to two-wheel drive when driving conditions are ideal will help extend the life of your transfer case and improve fuel economy. The Rubicon trim comes exclusively with Rock-Trac 4x4, another part-time system. While Rock-Trac operates similarly to Command-Trac, the transfer case has a 4:1 gear ratio, meaning it is better suited for low-speed crawling over steep, rugged terrain. A loss of momentum is an off-roader's worst fear, that’s why the Gladiator Rubicon comes with locking front and rear differentials to keep all four wheels moving.
