2022 Dodge Challenger engine options
The most important part of a muscle car is what’s under the hood, so that’s what we’ll talk about first. The engine lineup aligns itself with the trim level lineup. Kicking off the lineup is a 3.6L V6 inside the SXT and GT trims. This pushes out a healthy 303 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard for these trims, but all-wheel drive is available. When you step up to the R/T trim, you’ll enjoy 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque from a HEMI 5.7L V8. The R/T Scat Pack trim takes it a few steps further with a 485 horsepower 6.4L V8 offering 475 lb-ft of torque. Within the Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye, and Super Stock is a supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8. This legendary engine pumps out 707 horsepower and 656 lb-ft of torque for the Hellcat, 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque for the Hellcat Redeye, and 807 horsepower for the Super Stock. For transmissions, the SXT and GT come with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the R/T, Scat Pack, and Hellcat come with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, while the automatic is available. The Hellcat Redeye and Super Stock both use a high-torque enabled 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

Stepping up to the Scat Pack and SRT trims, you’ll find a cold air intake, SRT Power Chiller, Brembo high-performance disc brakes, Bilstein shock absorbers, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and headlight-integrated air intake valves.
Performance features of the 2022 Challenger
The engine lineup gives the Challenger immense power but its the performance features that make it all the more exciting! First, all Challenger models equipped with a V8 engine feature Active Exhaust. This electronically controlled valve opens when the gas pedal is pressed, letting out the signature HEMI growl. The R/T, Scat Pack, Hellcat, and Super Stock all feature SRT Drive Modes which include Valet, Auto, Sport, Custom, and Track. These trims also feature SRT Performance Pages showing drivers their top speeds, 0-60 times, engine output readings, and more. Additionally, these trim levels add Line Lock which locks the front brakes while the rear wheels are free to spin, allowing for burnouts to warm the tires before a track run. Launch control also comes on these trims, allowing you to set an RPM at which you want the Challenger to launch at. Once the engine reaches that RPM, release the brake and the hold on tight! Lastly, the SRT Power Chiller takes refrigerant from the A/C system and directs it to the supercharger’s chiller unit to regulate its temperature.
