Jeep is known for its off-roading ready SUVs but the introduction of the Gladiator reintroduced the Jeep brand to the mid-size truck segment! The Gladiator took everything we loved from the Wrangler Unlimited four-door body and added a five-foot truck bed to the back and boy is it amazing! Kicking things up a notch for the 2021 model year, the Gladiator will now offer an EcoDiesel engine option. This engine boosts the driving range and torque for even more adventures and capabilities. What kind of trim levels are offered?

In the 2021 model year, the Gladiator is available in four trim levels. The entry-level model is the Sport and it comes with manually adjustable mirror and door locks, cruise control, one USB port, an eight-speaker sound system, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, a folding soft top, a fold-down windshield, a 5-inch touchscreen, and removable doors. The Overland adds features like automatic headlights, automatic climate control, smartphone integration, two USB ports, a 7-inch touchscreen. With the Rubicon, drivers gain locking front and rear differentials, fenders with increased clearance, body-protecting rock rails and skid plates, and 33-inch all-terrain tires. The final trim is the Mojave and it comes with Jeep’s Desert Rated badge, FOX internal bypass shock absorbers with hydraulic jounce numbers, a reinforced frame, and a 1-inch lift for the front suspension.

Could you tell us more about this new engine addition?

Jeep heard its drivers, listening to their want and need for an engine that delivers better fuel economy, reduced levels of NVH, and additional torque and horsepower and delivered! The EcoDiesel engine offered for the Gladiator in the 2021 model year is the third generation of this engine. There were a number of significant changes made to this engine to ensure that it could keep up with the Gladiator. These changes include a redesigned combustion chamber and redesigned high-pressure direct-injection fuel injector nozzles for optimization. Lightweight aluminum alloy pistons with low-friction diamond-like carbon coating to reduce NVH and the piston pin has been offset by 0.3mm. When it comes to power, this engine pumps out 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Standard engine start/stop technology helps reduce the engine’s greenhouse gas emissions while boosting the fuel economy. Jeep pairs this engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission which was specifically designed to handle the Galdaitor’s low RPM shifts and bigger torque loads.

Can you talk about the Gladiator’s safety features?

The Gladiator comes outfitted with advanced safety features allowing drivers and all their passengers to adventure with peace of mind. The body of the Gladiator acts like a shield of armor, utilizing advanced high-strength steel chassis to direct energy from crashes away from the passengers inside. A suite of airbags acts as another layer of protection in the event of an accident. Other safety features offered for the 2021 model year include forward collision mitigation that warns the driver of a potential collision and applies the brakes if needed, adaptive cruise control that maintains a driver-set distance between the truck and the vehicle in front, and blind-spot monitoring.
